What is love to you?
Meaning what does it mean to you? How do you connect with love?
While you're thinking of the answers, I'll answer your question as you're probably wondering why I have a picture of a ruby to the left of this passage.
Well I met a precious young girl named "Ruby" the other evening while enjoying a vegan dinner with a friend. She is my inspiration for what you're about
When I think about love, I think of it as a living thing. Nothing stagnant, not something that you do once and then forget about it.
No I see it as something we get to put into action every single day of our lives. That's where my new 8 year old friend Ruby comes in.
For one, I'm a sucker for smart, expressive, confident kids and Ruby definitely fit the bill! As soon as she walked in the restaurant her exuberant personality lit up the room. I couldn't help but giggle.
As I listened to her I gathered that she was an incredibly confident girl with parents that deeply admired her. I decided to engage with Ruby by sharing with her just how phenomenal I thought she was and that she indeed had a new fan.
I chuckled as her parents said "Please don't encourage her." You could tell she was eating it up and her parents were going to have to clean the mess I was making as I continued to pour on the affirmation.
What struck me so much about Ruby was that she really had such a healthy dose of self love. I shared with her how rare it was to find this unique gift among adults and that she was way ahead of her time.
To me in that moment, she answered the question What is Love? She exemplified it so beautifully. She was full of life and comfortable in the knowledge that she was loved, not only by her parents, but she sincerely loved herself.
She was my little hero and rockstar for the evening. Thank you Ruby wherever you are for reminding even a dating coach like me what love is!
