Yesterday I had the privilege of meeting a local writer who shared his story with me, on how he beat the odds of not only winning against cancer, but also triumphed through a liver transplant! What fascinated me the most is that he’s going after life 100 mph and living life to its fullest. To me there’s nothing more exciting than to meet an individual who’s beat the odds, grabs life by the horns and rides the bull!
Some folks like to be the spectators of life, commenting on it and watching it go by. These are the people I want to slap upside the head and say “Wake Up!” I hear it so often when it comes to dating and relationships. I’ll run into people who complain about dating, but when you ask them when’s the last time they actually went on a date, they’ll find an excuse for that as well.
“There’s no one in my town.”, “I just don’t like dating”, “I live in too small of a town.”, “I’m just kind of waiting around to see what may come my way.” WRONG! What a joke, that I’m not buying. I’d much rather hear someone say, “You know I haven’t met anyone yet, but I’m still putting myself out there and hoping to meet someone soon!” Instead they take out their violin of excuses and piss me off every time.
I love the small town one, that gets me every time, yes they’ve dated everyone in that particular town, no one new ever passes through their town for them to possibly meet and that’s why they’ve hung the towel. Sell that story to your local paper, cause I’m not buying! We live in such a creative society, that it really leaves no one an excuse to not get out there and date.
Just today I met with a woman who is organizing 8 Minute Speed Dating to our area and I think it’s absolutely brilliant! Last week I had a guy moaning to me about the lack of dating that was available to the town we live in. As much as I’d love to pat his little head and say poor baby, I’d much rather kick him in the butt and say quit moaning, Speed Date! I mean hello, we have Online Dating, Speed Dating, Facebook, whatever…there are so many tools at our disposal, that if we’d just get out of the rut of quitting before we start, we’d be on our way.
Don’t you get tired of watching about dating, sitting in your home watching “The Bachelor”, or whatever reality show you fancy, or hearing your friends stories about their exciting dating lives? Why not do something about it? Ride the Bull! Like my friend who surpassed the traumatic experiences and lives every moment as if it’s his last, take his same remedy and apply it to your Dating Life!
