Want a burger? You can easily pull up to any drive thru and get what you want when you want. What about a coffee? Same thing pull up to any coffee shop and the coffee of your dreams can be made in a matter of minutes. Looking for a pair of shoes? There are stores upon stores that give you the option for style and price to accommodate your every desire. Face it, most of the things we want we can have when we want, how we want and wherever we want. Is it no wonder most of us are a mess when it comes to relationships?
We live in a time where instant gratification is at the end of our fingertips, the convenience of it all sets us up for disappointment and an altered perspective on life when the two just don’t coincide. Meaning when life as we now know it tells us we can have all of this so easily and while in the midst of our relationships when this doesn’t occur we find ourselves incredibly frustrated. And trust me, as a strong woman who struggles with patience I totally understand this.
Face it, when it comes to relationships it takes time. It takes time to get to know someone, it takes times to create safety, it takes time to build trust, it takes time to learn your dance of communication and so on. Give love the chance and allow patience and love to work things out on your behalf. The important thing is to get incredibly good at your communication, this will help you avoid the frustration/sabotage trap. Articulate how you feel, what you want out of the relationship, but then step back and give your relationship the time and space it needs. Keeping your love on is essential in this process.
Relationships are like wine, they get better over time if pursued and developed with a steadfastness of love.
